Two ridiculous things about women's tennis:
1) The rankings. Granted, I'm not a tennis diehard. But even I know that the Two Williams sisters should have been ranked 1-2 (either order) heading into Wimbledon. That way, when they end-up playing each other in the finals (again!) it wouldn't come as such a surprise.
2) All the complaining about the grunting? It's justified. Especially since what's coming-out the mouths of most of these isn't "grunting", but a combination of screams and shreiks and grunts. It's an ugly, annoying, distracting sound that, if you get the right two players on the court at the same time, makes the match almost unwatchable.
It's time to ban the grunts. Start each match with a warning, and then each player gets a warning if the violate the rule. After that each sound above a certain level (as determined by the referee) loses that point. That would stop the horror show once and for all. If we all wanted to hear woman grunting...well...we wouldn't be watching tennis. |
