Week 11 - Hit the Smart Button |

Week 11. While for many NFL teams there is plenty of times to get hot and turn a disappointing season into a memorable one, we Fantasy owners do not have that luxury. It's Now or Never time. 5-5...6-4...7-3 in a very competitive league...the next two weeks are MUST WIN weeks (lower than that and you may be in "wait 'til next year" mode.
It's no time to panic...make crazy trades before this weekend's deadline (in most leagues). In fact, as we talked about last week...it's time to be stockpiling players at the RB and WR positions...and keep digging for FA who's going to take you to the title.
And that means reading every team-related website you can, watching the waiver wire for your league...and...most importantly...watching the games. Player gets hurt...snag his back-up. Player gets benched, snag his replacement. Player gets arrested for using Coke...No sweat...keep putting him in your line-up each week (if his name is Matt Jones).
But don't be foolish with your moves. Tatum Bell? I don't think so. "Cadillac" Williams? Let somebody else buy that lemon. If you held on to Matt Hasselbeck waiting for this week...start him at your own peril. Same with Larry Johnson. There are better choices out there, guys who have been playing and producing. Heck, in one of my leagues I picked-up NYG TE Kevin Boss this morning. All he's done is catch a TD pass in each of the team's last 3 games. Drop Jeremy Shockey and pick-up Boss or Billy Miller.
Homework and smart moves this week and next will determine if you'll be playing meaningful games the final 5-weeks of the season. |

Week 10 - Some Sage Advice |

NFL Quarterbacks around going down faster than my 401K and it's only going to worse as the season progresses. And so Fantasy owners are scrambling.
Sure, if your #1 QB is done with his bye week, and he's in pretty good shape physically, you can maybe roll the dice, drop your back-up, and stockpile at other positions. But, if you've been battling the QB injury bug all season NOW is the time to grab-up every available starting QB you can find...and there are a bunch of new ones each week.
Best of the bunch out there right now: Tyler Thigpen of the Chiefs and the Steelers' Byron Leftwich. Thigpen will likely start the rest of the season...and he'll likely put-up better fantasy numbers than 60% of the QB's these last 8 weeks. While Ben Roethlisberger has been beaten-up so much this season that, even when he comes back from this latest injury, chances are he'll miss another game or two (or more) down the stretch. And Pittsburgh has enough weapons that Leftwich becomes a valuable fantasy QB.
Sage Rosenfelds also fits this catagory (Rex Grossman DOES NOT). By what's you best move? Grab them all. If you've been carrying a back-up kicker and a back-up defense DROP THEM. And you don't need 5 RB's or 5 WR's any longer, either. Load-up on QB's. Anyone that becomes available.
QUANTITY is your best strategy starting Week-10 when it comes to QB's. And, if you're lucky, one of the new guys you pick-up will provide some QUALITY as well. In fact, he may just win you a championship. |
