So, Jeremy Shockey can't stay healthy, can't stay on the field. And, he can't keep his mouth shut and is now going at it on the sidelines with QB Drew Brees. Imagine that. Hard to believe. Unless...

...you were paying attention to the time he spent as a member of the N.Y. Giants. Shockey, from the day he was drafted by the Giants, was the most over-rated player in the league. I said it then. I said it a dozen in on-air and in-print since. And I'm saying it again now.

But what's so amusing about this situation is now, finally, members of the New York media are finally saying and writing it. When Shockey was in their midst they couldn't see it and/or wouldn't admit it. But now that he's in New Orleans they can finally see that Shockey was, during his time in N.Y., and is, in N.O., the worst type of athlete: a guy with good physical tools who thinks he's better than he is, and yet can't stay healthy enough to prove it. In short: all talk and no action.

Meantime...the Dodgers "sweetened" deal of 3 years (2 plus and option) for $60-million to Manny Ramirez won't do the trick. There's no way...if he's talking 5 years...that Manny's agent, Scott Boras, is going to take 3. Unless the threat of impending Obama tax increases on the wealthy play a role. If Manny's financial people do the math and convince him that, by signing the deal in 2008 he can save enough money that he'll actually make MORE over the life of a 3-year deal than a 4-5 year deal, then we could see something happen in the next weeks.

For you and me it would be better if Ramirez waits until the new tax plan goes into place. With the Obama re-distribution of wealth system, we could all end-up getting a small piece of Manny's pie. Maybe enough to buy a dred wig.
